Serious topics,
genuinely fun games.
What we do
There is a whole field of games known as serious games — designed for education, psychology, social issues and professional training rather than for entertainment. Many of them teach something genuinely worthwhile. But a fair number end up as teaching material: used once in a classroom or a workshop, and never opened again at home.
Aqoocan Games is a publisher that translates the heart of a serious subject into a board game people actually want to play. We never put the learning up front. We design so that it rises quietly out of the play itself.
Three things we care about
We translate
We bridge the purpose of serious games and the pleasure of board games. Psychology, education, social issues, professional training — we translate what matters in a serious subject into a game that is genuinely fun to play.
Thinking grows
Computational thinking, self-knowledge, cooperation and dialogue — they grow while you are busy enjoying the game. We never announce them as learning objectives; we weave them quietly into the design.
We leave room
A finished game handed over is only half the story. We leave room for players to take part in the design — writing house rules, breaking the balance, fixing it again, and discovering the pleasure of being a designer.
FOR BUSINESS
Fun enough to play.
Serious enough to use at work.
